RockSolid Floors® DIY
FAQ

Q:  What is RockSolid Floors® and why is it better than other floor sealing products?
A: RockSolid Floors® is a two-component product that when mixed together forms a 100% Polyurea floor sealer. RockSolid Floors® is superior to epoxies, urethanes, paints and other coatings. Polyureas form a harder, denser, more abrasion resistant film than any of them. RockSolid Floors® is superior to any other coatings because it is made from the most durable coating available – Polyurea.

Q:  Is RockSolid Floors an epoxy?
A: No. RockSolid Floors® is a Polyurea based coating system.

Q:  What is Polyurea?
A: If you’re familiar with Spray On Truck Bed Liners you’re familiar with Polyurea. RockSolid Floors® is formatted from the same family of products.

Q:  Why is RockSolid Floors® more costly compared to epoxy?
A: Compared to other premium flooring products such as plastic tiles that start at $4 per sq ft. RockSolid is only .99 cents per sq ft. and unsurpassed durability over epoxy, being four times stronger. The kit also has a separate top coat included.  Far surpassing the one thin coat that other systems sell.

Q:  Will Steel wheels damage the floor when coated with RockSolid Floors?
A: RockSolid Floors® are resistant to steel wheels commonly used on floor jacks, engine hoists and even jack stands.

Q:  What about gas, oil and brake fluid? Will these damage the RockSolid Floors?
A: RockSolid Floors® is impervious to gas, oil, salt and other harsh chemicals.

Q:  Why do I need a protective coating on my garage floor?
A: Unprotected concrete floors will wear and be stained by oils and fluids. Damage can occur by the corrosive effects of snow and ice-melting chemicals such as rock salt. RockSolid Floors® coating system protects concrete from wear because it is actually harder and more durable than the concrete itself. RockSolid Floors® Polyurea is so dense that oils and fluids cannot penetrate its surface to soak in and cause staining. RockSolid Floors is impervious to the corrosive effects of rock salt. RockSolid Floors® beautifies your floor while prolonging the life of the concrete itself.

Q:  Why does the floor have to be prepared for the RockSolid Floors® kit?
A: Floor preparation is crucial to the proper installation of RockSolid Floors®. The RockSolid Floors® coating system will not be able to penetrate and bond to concrete in areas where heavy oil or fluid contamination has occurred. To remedy these areas, use a full concentration of RockSolid Commercial Degreaser prior to etching the floor.  The use of RockSolid Floors® Safe Etch Solution will help to remove some minor contaminants but it’s main purpose is to profile the concrete to provide an anchor for adhesion.

Q:  Can I put RockSolid Floors® over pre-existing paints or other coatings?
A: While it is always best to apply RockSolid Floors® to freshly cleaned and etched concrete, the revolutionary Micro-Bond technology allows for RockSolid Floors® Polyurea to bond to previously coated floors.  To do so, first check to guarantee that the existing coating is adhered to the floor. If so, you can simply sand the floor to etch the surface, clean it with a solvent and apply RockSolid Floors® primer body coat.  If the existing coating seems to be delaminating from the surface or failing in any way, then it is recommended to remove it using mechanical means such as shot-blasting or diamond grinding prior to applying RockSolid Floors®.

Q:  What is the purpose of the RockSolid Floors® decorative chip?
A: The decorative chip serves to enhance the appearance of the surface. Two different chip blends are included in each kit, allowing the customer to choose their decorative look.  The two chip blends can also be combined for a truly original finish.  The chip blends were chosen to accentuate the color of the floor and also provide a distraction to the naked eye – dirt and debris will be less visible.
